Camp Get Fit, Summer Day Camp
The purpose of the Camp Get Fit summer program is to demonstrate the impact that a six to eight week summer camp intervention for 8 hours daily, which focuses on health, nutrition and physical activity has on the physical, cognitive, and attitudinal attributes concerning youth.
HKT/CGF summer program is our expanded curriculum that serves students from pre-school through junior high school. It is not a babysitting camp, but rather a training mechanism for supporting and creating healthier youth and families. Our program features a weekly health, nutrition, and fitness focus. We explore areas such as, the USDA My Plate and Food Pyramid, Grains, Fruits, Vegetables, the Heart, the Muscles, the Brain and more.
HKT/CGF Old School Fitness and Fast Food Fridays help give campers and families’ practical strategies to live more healthily. The program includes weekly field trips, the offering of specialty skill services such as yoga, dance, pilates, gardening, sport related fitness, nutrition services, health education, nutrition demonstrations and healthy cooking. Weekly tutoring is provided. Students receive breakfast, lunch, and 2 snacks daily. Our primary objectives are to increase the amount of physical activity conducted daily, and to increase the nutrition consumption of the five major food groups for our campers.
